El Cafsi, M.; Beddih, M.L.O.A.; Marzouk, B; Zarrouk, K..

Diallelic analysis for lysine and oil contents in maize grains Scientia Agricola
Medici,Leonardo Oliveira; Gaziola,Salete Aparecida; Varisi,Vanderlei Aparecido; Paula,José Antonio Carmezini de; Ferreira,Renato Rodrigues; Azevedo,Ricardo Antunes.
Six S5 lines of maize, with differences for lysine and oil contents in grains, were used to carry out a complete series of diallelic crosses. The resulting 15 hybrids were grown in a field at two nitrogen levels (10 and 130 kg N ha-1). The general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were obtained by using the method 4, model I of Griffing for grain yield, and grain lysine and oil contents. Significant (p < 0.001) interaction was observed between GCA and N levels for grain yield, indicating the selection of different lines for each N level. This interaction was not significant for lysine content, but there were significant effects of GCA for this trait at both N levels (p < 0.1). Significant effects were not observed for GCA...

Differences in pressure and temperature transitions of proteins and polymer gels BJMBR
Kunugi,S.; Kameyama,K.; Tada,T.; Tanaka,N.; Shibayama,M.; Akashi,M..
Pressure-driven and temperature-driven transitions of two thermoresponsive polymers, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAM) and poly(N-vinylisobutyramide) (pNVIBA)), in both a soluble linear polymer form and a cross-linked hydro-gel form, were examined by a dynamic light-scattering method and direct microscopic observation, respectively. Their behavior was compared with that of protein systems. Changes in some characteristic parameters in the time-intensity correlation functions of dynamic light-scattering measurement of aqueous solutions of pNIPAM at various pressures and temperatures showed no essential differences during temperature and pressure scanning and, as a whole, the motions of polymers in aqueous solutions were similar in two types of transitions...

Núñez, R.R.; Villaverde, M.J.; Almazán, V.; Pita, A.; Ortiz, E.; Pérez, R.M..

Drying kinetics of fermented grape pomace: Determination of moisture effective diffusivity AGRIAMBI
Deamici,Kricelle M.; Oliveira,Lucas C. de; Rosa,Gabriela S. da; Oliveira,Elizangela G. de.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to obtain the equilibrium moisture content of grape (variety ‘Tannat’) pomace through desorption isotherms, to evaluate the drying kinetics, determine the coefficient of effective diffusivity and physico-chemically characterize the grape pomace and the product obtained after drying. The desorption isotherms were determined at 50, 60 and 70 ºC and the experimental data were fitted using the GAB model (Gugghenheim, Anderson and de Boer). Drying was evaluated using a 22 factorial experimental design with three center points and effective diffusivity was obtained through the diffusion model of Fick’s second law. The grape pomace was characterized regarding the contents of moisture, protein, carbohydrates, lipids, ash and...

Effect of chronic exposure to ammonia on alterations of proteins and immunoglobulins in sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) serum ArchiMer
Coeurdacier, Jean-luc; Dutto, Gilbert.
The relationship between serum protein, immunoglobulin concentrations and protein molecular weight profile (PMWP) alterations of sea bass (131.3 +/- 4.3 g) reared in sea water with sublethal concentrations of ammonia was studied over two periods totalling 116 days. During the exposure period (62 days) the first group (group 1) lived in sea water with 0.204 mg.L-1 unionized ammonia nitrogen equivalent to 12 % of the lethal concentration for 50 % of a population exposed for 96 h to ammonia (96-h LC50), whilst the second group (group 2) lived in sea water with 0.340 mg.L-1 UIA-N equivalent to 20 % of the 96-h LC50 of ammonia. Then, the two groups were left for a recovery period (54 days) in the same water as the control group (group 0). The determination of...

Effect of humic substances and weather conditions on leaf biochemical changes of fertigated guava tree, during orchard establishment Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Dantas,Bárbara França; Pereira,Maiane Santos; Ribeiro,Luciana de Sá; Maia,Joselanne Luiza Trajano; Bassoi,Luis Henrique.
In São Francisco Valley, Northeast Brazil, humic substances have been used by growers in fertigated fruit crops, due to its improvements on soil conditions and in plant nutrient uptake, metabolism and growth, reported from different growing places and crops. Nevertheless, little information about plant response to humic substance usage for local soil, weather and cropping system conditions is known. Hence, the metabolic response of guava tree during the orchard establishment to fertigation with humic substances and its correlation to the weather conditions were evaluated in Petrolina, State of Pernambuco. The treatments were manure application in soil combined with mineral fertilizers and humic substances applied through water of irrigation. The results...

Effect of sediment nearness on the metabolic enzyme activity and energy state of the oyster Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Le Moullac, Gilles; Fleury, Pierre-gildas; Le Coz, Jean-rene; Moal, Jeanne; Samain, Jean-francois.
This study was designed to assess in situ the effects of sediment nearness on Crassostrea gigas metabolism. One year-old oysters were reared for 5 months (April-August) in plastic bags on metallic frames at 10 and 60 cm off the sediment at the beginning of April. The management of the energetic resources (storage, consumption) was estimated with respect to biochemical changes of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. In order to evaluate the effect of the sediment nearness at cellular level, the metabolic rate was evaluated by assessing pyruvate kinase (PK) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) enzyme activities and electron transport system (ETS) activity. The metabolic pathways were assessed by measuring ATP and intermediary metabolites such as...

Elaboración de harina de pescado OceanDocs
Silva Ortiz, S..
Almost one third of the worlds annual fish catch is used for processing into fish meal and oil. Peru and Chile are the main fish meal producing countries and they lead its commerce. Fish meal can be produced from any fish or shellfish, but fish offal from the consumption industry and the called 'Industrial fish' are mainly used. Nearly all the fish meal is produced by the wet pressing method that consists of cooking and pressing the raw material and subsequent drying and milling. There are several technologies specially designed to modify certain variables of the process in order to optimize its productivity and the quality of the final product. Fish meal quality depends on the type and freshness of the raw material, the applied thermal treatment and...

Electrophoretic behavior of ewe milk proteins from local breeds Rembi and Ouled-Djellal of the Algerian central steppe Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Zobiri-Illoul,Assia; Yabrir,Benalia; Laoun,Abbas; Mati,Abderrahmane.
Abstract In order to characterize the production of sheep milk in Algeria (North of Africa) and to detect molecular markers related to the constitution of the protein phase of this milk, we proposed to analyze the electrophoretic behaviors of caseins and serum proteins under various migration conditions (native, urea and SDS-PAGE), from milk collected during the first three months of the year, from two breeds Ouled-Djellal and Rembi, living in the central area steppe. The profiles obtained show a great similarity and homogeneity between the different samples of the milk of the two breeds of ewes studied as to the number and intensity of the revealed migration bands. Some of the latter are nevertheless distinguished from cow’s milk by different levels of...

Energy-protein management by some warmwater finfishes. ArchiMer
Luguet, P; Moreau, Y.
If warmwater finfish protein requirements as level in diet is low, absolute intake per day is similar to those of coldwater species. But relation of this requirement with specific growth rate differs for strictly warmwater fishes as Tilapias. Analysis of partition between protein and non-protein energy retention shows that these species with Clarias make a better use of non-protein energy provided and consequently improve their protein retention. Better carbohydrate digestibility and metabolism are propounded as part of the explanation.

Richard, P; Djabali, M; Lagardere, Francoise; Lagardere, J.
The effects of starvation on Solea solea at 10 and 20 degree C in sea water, were studied. At 20 degree C fishes start to die on week 4; at 10 degree C they support a longer starvation period (9 weeks). Proximate analysis shows that protein are more steadily used at 20 degree C than at 10 degree C, contrarily to the corporal lipids which are used at the same rate. Starvation results in a reduction of liver lipids and glycogen. This reduction is more pronounced at 20 degree C : 70% of hepatic glycogen is used at this temperature within the first week of starvation against 30% at 10 degree C.
